Contact a Family

Our freephone helpline gives advice and information on any issue affecting parents with disabled children in the UK.

We can put parents in touch with each other through a family linking seervice on a local and national basis via the helpline.  We also offer a web-based linking service at www.makingcontact.org.

Our Library and Information department provides information to professionals, produces a quarterly magazine and free monthly e-newsletter.

We have a 'Parents and Paediatrics' joint project with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, working to create effective partnerships between parents of disabled children and the paediatricians and other paediatric health care staff who work with them.

We can help families set up, run and develop UK-based support groups for families with disabled children and rare disorders and specific conditions.

We work with parents to influence services, campaigning to improve the quality of life for families with disabled children.

We can help Children's Centres set up a dedicated area of Contact a Family resoursed for both parents and professionals through our subscription service.

We produce a wide range of publications for parents and professionals including 'The Contact a Family Directory' - Specific Conditions, Rare Disorders and UK Family Support Groups. Price £35 (new edition every year).  Most of our information materials can be found on our website, others will need to be ordered.

We organise training, fun days, information events and workshops for families through our local and national offices.

We have National and Regional Offices covering:  Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, North East England, North West England, West Midlands, London Borough Offices.
